JAFFA - TEL AVIV
How cinema is reflected in reality
Our journey down the boulevard began at the Alhambra Cinema (red in Arabic). A beautiful building with a glorious history that has been at the center of the cultural life of the residents of the boulevard and its surroundings throughout the upheavals that the boulevard has undergone. The Alhambra was the heart of the boulevard and brought people here from all over the country and movies and plays from all over the world. The boulevard, like the Alhambra, also spoke of abundance, multiculturalism and progress.
The avenue like the Alhambra is wearing red today.
During the two months we worked on the boulevard we realized that there is a connection between what happens to cultural institutions and what happens in the environment in which they are, cultural institutions are the first to undergo changes (renaming, purpose change, closure, demolition) and then it reaches the environment and human fabric, more slowly Without almost noticing.
We chose to raise a red flag today to raise awareness of the phenomenon and perhaps start exploring how we preserve the unique character of Jerusalem Boulevard just before its heart disappears.
